Because with out cellular respiration the cell cannot produce ATP, which is the energy source for every thing the cell does. Without ATP life cannot function.

Cellular respiration allows the cell to live and conduct chemical transfer between cells. You need to look at the Kreb Cycle and the Citric Cycle.
