Many people eat out on Thanksgiving, including myself (closest relatives several states away!). Do you see this as diminishing the meaning and significance of Thanksgiving?

Please share your plans for Thanksgiving Day.

Depends on your families tradition. Thanksgiving is at my house every year and ALL of my family comes, its A LOT of people. Its our tradition, me and my mom and sisters cook for everyone. But if your family goes out then its fine for you guys. The point of Thanksgiving is to be with loved ones and be thankful for them and everything you have. You can do that at a restaurant or at home. :o)

I think the most important thing is that your family is together for Thanksgiving. It doesn't matter to me if that's in a restaurant or someone's home. Sometimes restaurants work out better. Some people either don't like or can't cook. The only reason my family eats in is because I like to cook.

I've had Thanksgiving dinner at restaurants before and while it is very nice to pick and choose what you are going to have for dinner and not have to cook it or clean up after wards there is just something about cooking at home and having lots of left overs to enjoy for later on.

From a definition stand point, I would say it doesn't really matter. Granted, the first "Thanksgiving" was food of the earth, but that was all that was available. The true meaning is to give thanks for the gifts of the year.

To make it most appropriate, say a little blessing, have everyone say what they are thankful for, each of you say thanks to the person sitting next to you, sincerly thank your server, leave an extra large tip, and the "disgrace" of eating Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant will be forgiven.

no, it doesn't diminish to eat at a restaurant on Thanksgiving because in your mind you are celebrating the holiday. i think as long as you do celebrate the holiday its ok. it is nice for families to have great big get togethers but for some people it is not possible.

I like to eat with my family at home. But to go out to eat with the ones you love can be fulfilling too. Maybe that is your tradition. Everyone can feel special in their own way. We have dinner at my girlfriends mom's the day before, then we go to my parents house on Thanksgiving, watch some football, eat, snack around, and then head over to my brothers house to catch up with everyone and prepare for Christmas. Happy Holidays!

Doesn't matter where you eat or what you do as long as you are around the people you love and care about.
