With an M.B.A., the importance is the reputation and strength of the university itself, no matter how you take the classes. You are not penalized for taking classes online (you don't get a different type of degree because you obtain it online) - many working professionals have to go this route (myself included). Online classes tend to be a bit more difficult and you do miss out on the in class interaction (and networking as another commenter mentioned). You still have some interaction (message board, conferences depending on the course structure) and if you are working full time, online is a good option.

Just check out the schools ranking and research each institution your interested in thoroughly (don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to - re: class structure....). I've just started with NJIT towards an MSM, so far so good. I believe the MBA can be done completely online at NJIT. Good luck in your pursuits!

If you are going to do an online MBA do one from a ranked, brick and mortar school. There is no substitute for the live, in person program. Meeting other students (and future business leaders) is half the point of an MBA program. Spend the extra money and time in doing it right the first time. Check out Financial Times for the world rankings.

An on-site MBA program is likely to have a much higher value to most employers. A lot of the value of an MBA comes from group interaction - just not the same online.
