There are term limits. It's called voting them out!

Did you read my mind? I've been thinking the same thing lately. Especially with all the corruption going on in DC these days. I never got into politics much until the last 2 years (now retired). Now I'm addicted. The more you know....

There are 3 things that need to change (my opinion, of course).
1. Limited terms in Congress.
2. Limited campaign contributions
3. Congressmen should not be able to use insider knowledge
for personal gain.

Obviously, the longer they are in Congress, the more "tempted" they become to accept bribes & gifts from special interest groups & lobbyists. Currently, any member of Congress can use inside knowledge to buy stocks, land, etc, & use it for personal gain. I recently saw an interview on CNN from an ex Senator in Montana (R), who was the head of the House Ethics Committee. He investigated the outing of Tom Delay. For that, he was forced to resign. Go figure. How do we get this off the ground? Let me know if you find out. I'll back you 100%!! Oh, and DO VOTE!!

Those are our chosen representatives, they should represent us for as long as we ask them too by vote. Don't like them? Vote them out, campaign against them or go away.

Did you know that as an American citizen, you can circulate a petition and with enough signatures We the People can actually make law. Go to school and get an education, and if you are still motivated enough afterwards, make a difference. All it takes is a leader.

The politicians are only part of the problem. A bigger problem is the staff that is unelected and stay there for years working for whichever Pol. They are given tremendous authority and control what the Pol sees therefore driving the political machine.

The staff should be term limited along with the politicians.

You are right about the President and VP! I think there should be term limits on them. I think the President should only be able to serve two consecutive terms and then he can't run again.

Great idea - only problem is the ones we're hoping to regulate (or set) term limits are the ones currently sitting there raking in the power and the loot.

That would take a constitutional amendment. What do you think about the chances of Pols voting to limit their power?

Works for me. Trying to get the necessary Constitutional amendment through Congress, however, is a dubious prospect.

I agree. Senators, four years, two terms. Representatives, four terms.

That's plenty of time for something positive from them, and not long enough for them to do vast amounts of damage.
