We as a species do it all the time.
Even on a small scale.
For instance, we have the personal freedom of speech. Yet generally we do not walk up to some big hulking guy on the street and say "You know what, you're ugly." Our happiness (in this extreme example, our not being beaten to a pulp) is dependent on our keeping our mouths shut.
Patrick Henry would disapprove. "Forbid it, Almighty God!", he would say.
I'm inclined to agree.
