ie

going on and on about the days of empire - how the Brits and French were so nasty to the poor people in the colonies etc

Whilst conveniently forgetting that THEIR Ancestors committed MASS GENOCIDE against the native American tribes?

Doesn't it seem a bit hypocritcal?

Dane - no they weren't Europeans - they proudly separated from Europe in the War of Independence, drew up their own constitution and proclaimed themselves "American".

Matthew G - as usual completeing avoiding the point of the question.

As for "Europeans" starting wars that Americans have to finish. Hmm who had to hold the Americans' hand when they went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq? Oh thats right the Brits. You are very good at starting wars you can't finish as well

Oh and as for taxes, I'd sooner know that mine are going to help people who are poor and destitute than going into the pocket of some greedy congressman.

I think you mean 'the american administration'.

I've met several americans who are deeply ashamed of the attitudes that Europeans think (correctly, I'm told) US policymakers have towards other nations.

My guess is that the US (military, administration, & business community) is powerful enough to do what it wants most of the time, so telling other people how wrong they are, and have always been, is typical behaviour from an arrogant institution; arrogant people seem to behave the same way.

I've met some arrogant americans, too, but not enough to make me think they're all like that.

They have their bigots, and we have ours. And I'm not sure that they're any happier with their government than we are with ours, either.

because they came from there and they have long memories. the amerians learned how to tax the hell out of their own and all the other bad habits from them and put on a new coat of paint. the europeans are old world and have no where to escape to now so they really getting messed up but hell so is america as there is no more new lands to go to. americans are on top of the pile so naturally they are going to be condescending to the rest of the world

Because most of us Americans are products of the public education system, where we are only taught what the current administration deems compatible to their goals.

I doubt it was mass genocide since the white settlers didn't intend on eliminating an entire race of people. It was more like ethnocide, the elimination of one's culture.

Whats your point? The "americans" you refer to were europeans.

Maybe because the Euro-PEE-ons are good at things like genocide and starting World Wars that WE haved to FINISH!

How many dead from the Holocaust?

How many dead in Bosnia?

Not to mention that Euro-PEE-ons are all SOCIALIST nations that OVERTAX their citizens.

Oh yeah, how many cameras film British citizens? 14 for every ONE citizen.
