It is a Universal Law which is timeless. Presence of time do not allowed us to recognize its inevitable functions, we are too busy with our dramas. It had been said:" do to another as you do to yourself" Same formula but represented from different angle. Let me make a few examples here...How many times we wish( which is nothing but doing) to another to be stupid, ugly, insufficient etc...May be our stupid actions later(which we softly calling "mistakes") is a reflections of mentioned above Law?We are quick to forget what we think or do for another, judgment included, but the Law was set up firmly. Another example, that is absolutely undeniable. Imagine yourself as nonjudgmental witness of family conflict...Husband saying wife that she is stupid idiot, as a reaction wife shoot back ,"nooooo you are stupid idiot" .Next you are about to witness two stupid idiots fighting over nothing...That is instant manifestations of Universal Law which does not care what we carrying in our minds then fighting over it.It cares of its Justice. We are entitled to be care what is in our minds, I presume. I believe that it is a purpose of our being here on earth. Matter of time makes justice visiting us later, and never know when, usually in most inconvinient for us time...Our complains over Life itself originated in our ignorance. That complains "which goes around", inevitably "comes around" making our life filled with complains...Interesting that people who eliminated complains from their lifes having cause of complains dissappear ...It just takes time and certain persistence based on Faith.See, problem creates complain, which initiating continuation of a movement...Cause and effect...and if there no effect then there won't be a cause, for without effect cause cannot be...Kabbala and Sufi carrying that wisdom.

Karma, Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म from the root kṛ, "to do") is a word of ancient origin meaning action or activity and its subsequent results (also called karma-phala, "the fruits of action"). It is commonly understood as a term to denote the entire cycle of cause and effect as described in the philosophies of a number of Dharmic Religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

I don't believe it means "If you do this the exact same thing will happen to you." Yes, sometimes things do happen that way.
But I think what it means is, if you do something bad, no good will come of it, and if you do something nice, nice will in turn happen to you.
This is a basic element of the Christian faith.
It is also known as Karma.
