I was watching Strictly Come Dancing, when Emma Burton and her partner danced to the tune Kiss from a Rose. They danced in the waltz style, and I never thought this Seal's song was written this way.

Apparently professional dancers can dance to any songs that are played. Does it mean that for every tune, we can dance in any way that we like?

it's all about the rythym. certain dances go with certain rythyms. for instance, a waltz goes with just about any song that has 3 beats per measure. (one main beat, two small beats repeated over and over)
you'd be surprised what you can ballroom dance too. a friend of mine was playing some rap song the other night and i realized that you could foxtrot to it. so we went through his entire playlist and figured out the dances that went with each song. it was pretty cool.

Pretty much yes. For example modern jive prides itself on being able to be danced to virtually any music.

For set dances like the waltz it depends on the number of beats/rhythm but a tune can always be slowed down or speeded up which can help.

Like the other person said, it's about tempo. As long as a song has the right tempo for a particular dance, it can be done. People will get irked by it, I personally like it as it opens up people's minds to new music and to dance.

And really, you can dance however you'd like to whatever song you choose. Those that try to say differently just don't know how to have fun. Dance is about expression and you should always feel free to express yourself.

Yes it is all to do with the beat.
My friends and I have lined danced for 9years and people are always surprised when we dance to something not ...country!
Worse tune was Amazing Grace far too slow.

i think you may have hit on a good idea for dance schools for slow dances even some operatic tunes, if one constructs set peice reutines for individual tunes, one could start a whole new dance craze of style and elegance.
