I have told her time and time again that she should not even be thinking about him in that kind of way coz if anything were to happen, like if they kissed or something, then the feeling would only get stronger and it would eventually end up in disaster. She listens to me but I guess she can't help herself. They have so much in common, in fact, if I didn't know any better I'd say they were brother and sister just by their similar behaviour and personalities. What can I possibly say to this girl so I can get her to understand that she is definately headed down the wrong path? Does anyone out there understand, know or experienced what I'm talking about? Please help me help this girl get over these feelings. Also, she has never had a male family figure in her life, and she just got re-aquainted with this cousin after several years and now they are getting close.Could it be that she just admires him alot? Is this normal? Are there any shrinks out there? I'm really worried about her.

It's just a crush. She'll get over it. I used to have a crush on my brother-in-law's nephew. It's gone now. If you let it run its course, chances are that she'll forget about him at some point. But if you really want to make sure that nothing bad happens, introduce her to a really hot guy in school or something. Take her out to the mall and look for guys. Mb she'll find a guy that's even cooler than her cousin. I mean, c'mon...thre must be somebody out there somewhere...

It used to be taboo, but not any more. Even Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt were cousins!

It is okay. Just decide you are for it and you will be surprised at how well everything will work out. "Much ado over nothing!"

Sadly, the way things are nowadays people think anything goes, look at all the dumb things celebrities do openly, she will hopefully snap out of that foolishness, but in the end, its her that will have to live with the shame, and she may not think she will fell it but she will. remember it is her life, sometimes we can only be an observer, learn from her mistakes and avoid your own by making sound decisions.

You will not like this advice: get over your own objections to this. Although first cousin relationships can lead to genetic problems, in this day and age that is the least of one's worries. Bottom line: stay out of it.

Continue to tell her about NOT to even go there. Is she hard up for a man, or is this just her silly , young way of thinking ? When you double bang those two similar personalities, and behavior, they may end up with a retarded child. You are 100% accurate.

I think you did a good job warning her that things could get out of hand. And it is possible that the cousin cares enough for her to keep himself and her under control.
If you think it is necessary get someone else involved.

Basic facts.
If they were to have a child together, there is a great possability that resesive genes would cause severe deformitys and birth defects. That is why there is such a cultural taboo about this subject. It's called inbreeding !

Unfortunately, you can't control the way anyone else feels. People do marry their first cousins. Usually there are blood tests required to make sure they'll be compatible, but it does happen.

Don't worry about it. It makes you uncomfortable, and lots of other people too, but who does it really hurt? Nobody. Focus on things that make you happy, and let your friend focus on her happiness, too.
