This is a very important issue and as far as my search on net and reading of books revealed that it is possible to select a baby boy or a girl prior to conception. Any one knows more details may add. Any one requiring any detail may contact me. I will be obliged to answer the same at naptune76@yahoo.co.uk

Yes. My friend has six children all with predetirmined genders. She used the shettle's method and it worked EVERY time!

You cannot select prior to conception unless you have a foolproof method for separating Y chromosome sperm from X chromosome sperm. There are some "spinning" methods but they are not anywhere close to 100%.

You can select after fertilization/conception if you do in vitro fertilization and do pre-genetic testing (PGD) on the resulting embryos. When the embryos are 3 days old and have about 8 cells, they can remove one of the cells and use that cell for testing. PGD is normally done when the couple has had a lot of miscarriages or if the woman is over 40. It is usually used to test for conditions which will result in miscarriage so that they can put back only the healthy embryos in the woman's uterus. With PGD you can also see the gender of the embryo.

If there is a genetic problem in your family (diseases that only occur in males for example) all PGD centers will help you. Some will also do PGD for purposes of family-balancing. And some will just do whatever you want and not throw their own ethics in.

ON EDIT: P.S., PGD costs around US$4,000 and IVF costs around US$15,000. I do not know costs in other parts of the world.

It is possible, but there's a lot of lab work involved and dabbling with chromosomes and genetics. So hopefully you have a large bank account and many eggs to donate to make sure you get the sex... but I believe that's too much with playing GOD, so I don't know what genetic scientist you're going to find that will do something like that if it is legal.
