My remedy, I take a dose of cherry Nyquil and throw a couple extra blankets on the bed. The Nyquil helps fight the cold from the inside and the blankets help sweat it out. If I do this the first night I'm feeling sick, the cold is gone by morning.

Of course there is the usual get rest and drink plenty of fluids. In addition, zinc lozenges, available in any pharmacy have been show to shorten duration of colds. Blow your nose a lot. If you are congested, try a saline spray, those are not addictive. Gargle with warm salt water to clear mucus and germs out of your throat. If you have nasal and chest congestion, fill a bowl or pot with very hot water, put in a tablespoon of Vicks, put a towel over your head and inhale the fumes deeply, BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF OR PUT YOUR FACT TOO CLOSE TO THE WATER. Suck mentholyptus lozenges often. Up your intake of vitamin C. If you begin to get diarrhea, back off the C for a bit. You can also take echinacea and goldenseal. Both are available at health food stores and some regular markets. Garlic has been shown to be helpful in boosting the immune system. Use hand sanitizer regularly so you don't pick up another infection. An over the counter decongestant like Triaminic Yellow will not make you drowsy or leave you feeling drugged, but it will keep the mucus loose and flowing. You want the mucus that develops as a result of the infection to get OUT of your body so it does not make a slimy breeding ground for worse things. Good luck!

I have a cold too it is going around big time. I remember when I was pregnant. The only thing I was allowed to take was pseudofed. I don't know how much this has changed. Call your doc. Drink plenty of fluid. It will also help if you stand under a hot shower and let that help you to drain mucus. I hope you feel better. why did I get a thumbs down for that. This is what a doctor told me plus I was a nurse.

Recent medicines like Airborne are good. Basically they're just a ton of vitamin C and other things in a pill. Nyquil before bed is a godsend. You sleep better, which helps your body do its thing, and you get a good shot of medicine stuffs too.
My best advice: If you get a fever, sweat it out. Bundle up in all the warmest stuff you can, sweaters, sweatpants, blankets, set up a humidifier and heater in the room. Bacteria don't function as well when the heat's on, which is why you get a fever.
If you do choose to sweat it out, be sure to drink lots of water or juice, you'll lose a surprising amount of water.

Drink water to flush the system but I would have zinc to shorten the length preferably one that is sucked because it absorbs better through the mouth. I would give vicks first defence as I have heard good reports. I wouldnt bother with the echinacea as it gives the immune system a high then it comes down lower than before making you more vulnerable to colds and flu.
