Greed and lust are the prevailing factors.
Neocons are the hypocrites, they love war...but they don't want to fight it themselves. The love America, but don't wanna pay taxes.
And of course, a lot of neocons preachers, are gay. Rev. Haggard, a major neocon, told people not to be gay(because God doesn't like it). Of course, he is one. Hypocrite neocons.

What causes darkness in liberal hearts? The answer is simple there are evil people in both parties. We as Americans can do our part by trying to vote people into power that we feel are good, honest, descent people that have the same values as we do and hope for the best. We will never succeed if we do not put country ahead of parties.

It's not a matter of darkness, at least for the vast majority.
They are doing what they think is right for everyone, kind of like a parent acting in our best interests. So, they use the fact that they control the majority of govt to impose their beliefs on everyone. They see anyone who doesn't agree with them as misguided and foolish, and in need of being cared for so we don't hurt ourselves.
Yes, I consider that attitude demeaning and insulting, as any person who values freedom and free will should. But most of them have good intentions. Now, we just need to find them a road to pave those good intentsions with.
