Personally I wasnt very impressed with it. I bought it right after the whole Oprah thing- I'm a sucker for controversy- and I couldnt make it halfway through the book! Typically "true life" or "fiction based on true life" is one of my favorite genres. But James Frye's story never caught me

No I haven't read it but I've heared the controversy. Yes I think they author could've been more clear about the fact that some of the book is embellished a bit. But really, who cares?!?! It's supposed to be good and has helped people who have been at their lowest point! Oprah had the author on her show and was so gullible that she thought every word in that book would be true. He is an addict and a lot of the time he was probably so out of his mind that he had to fill in the blanks a little bit as best he could while writing the book. I just think it's so stupid that Oprah took so much offense to him coming on her show and saying it was a biography. Seriously, she wanted him to apologize!!! Whatever Oprah, get over yourself.

I read the book some time ago and was moved by the story. I was unaware until now that Frey had fabricated parts of his story. I feel very let down by him. I was planning to read My Friend Lionel but I definately will not be doing so now.

It's a great book and I really enjoyed it, it's very unfortunate that it was exposed as containing a few minor porky pies for literary effect as the majority of the book is true and exceptionally well written, he really didn't need to lie, it's a shame as its damaged his credibility, but the book is well worth the read all the same.

Yeah i read it, its an interesting read regardless of the controvesy. I read it thinking it was fiction anyway and afterwards someone told me it was real and then everyone was arguing over it. I don't really care whether it is or isn't worth a read regardless.

Yup I read the book and as I was reading it, I thought this guy is full of crap. Turns out he is a liar and I wish I could get my money back from buying his book of lies.

Yes and I read My Friend Leonard. They were good. I know it has come out that some of his story was not true. They were still good books.
