you will have to put your own touches to make it feel like home, you are lucky to have a NEW place, and the walls being cream instead of white is great ,, you need some soft lighting to start with and lots of table cloths, place-mats, runners , area rugs,,, less is best if you don't want the clutter look... enjoy your new home ,,, don't try to decorate it in one day live there and feel it. then you will know what you need

First off, don't paint anything unless you have permission from the Landlord. Pictures and posters make the room reflect your personality but NO NAILS PLEASE!! Go to any of the Home Improvement and/or Hardware stores and ask about fasteners that do not need screws and nails. The alternative is, if you are skilled at filling in nail-holes and sanding them over, the Landlord may forgive you when it comes to moving time.
Curtains and knick-knacks from your previous apartment? Most of all, don't listen to anyone else when it comes to decorating your own place.........just do what makes you feel comfortable.

Hi!
If you are in the UK why don't you visit Ikea or Ilva for some good room setting ideas?
There are also come really good comtemporary interior design magazines on the shelves at the moment that will help you!
I'm SO jealous - I DREAM of an apartment that I could have all to myself and furnish and decorate from scratch!
Best of luck!

I would have my prized, familiar posessions out. I have use of a cottage outside the city. I still use it on holidays. I am the only one there. It was new, and had nothing. So, I put three stuffed animals on top of the tele, and bought decent used furniture that would look good overall.
Somehow the place began to look like home!

You could pick a warm colour you like (crimson, burgandy, gold etc)and get that colour on cushion covers,a vase, pictures, candles etc.Candles always give it a homely touch and perhaps a plant or two.Get some soft lighting for the evening.

It all denpends on your price range. The quickest way to make an apartment your own is to put pictures(not posters) YOU like on the wall and hang curtains on the wall. It's the little touches that will make it homey

Plants plants plants! Pick out different types of leaves, skinny, shiny, thick, colorful, etc. I don't have any pictures up at all since we have been remodeling, but I do have my plants back in and it is oh so homey. Pictures of course do add to the feeling as well.

i would buy a couple of pretty rugs, some coordinating throw pillows and afghans for the sofa, a ficus plant, and candles and long lasting air scents. photos in lovely, unusual frames also warm up the place.
