AFTER BURN OUT LOST PWER SOUNDS LIKE COMPRESSED
AIR LEAK LIKE A EXHAUST ALSO HARMONIC BAL DONT LOOK LIKE ROTATION IS PERFECT UNTIL HIGHER RPM ALSO VERY SMALL FEELING LIKE SOMETHINGS LOOSE ALMOST A KNOCK HARD TO EXPLAIN BUT NO POWER BEEN WORKING ON THE TIMING AND HAD STARTER PROBLEMS DID OTHER STARTER DAMAGE CRANK OR TIMING JUMP

Starter isn't going to hurt crank or timing.The harmonic balancer sounds like it isn't right.Do a compression test to see if all cylinders are ok.If you built the engine,are you sure everything is correct or did you just through a bunch of goodies into an empty block?

Hard to read your post. Frist the 383 is a 350 block with a 400 crane installed. The crank is externaly balanced. So balance is critical. If the harmonic balancer is wobbling it is shot and you are doing damage to your engine, As for the knock, you could have damaged a bearing. But if it is an automatic i would think you have cracked the flex plate. The air leak sounds like a loss of compression. That with the loss of power makes me think blown head gasket. Look for water in the oil. Hope this helps
