I think you are correct. I live in the city and every night the sky glows with that orange pukey color. I hate it. When I leave the city and can see the stars it's quite amazing. We are also messing with other species such as migrating birds. Sometimes in the morning workers will have to clean up dead birds who blindly followed city lights thinking they were stars. I want so bad to see the milky way and zodiacal light but you have to go to the grand canyon or something to do it. Our wasteful lifestyle is not sustainable though so hopefully we'll change out of necessity.
