It is conservative in the sense that it prevents certain actions which some consider risky, and requires behaviors and conformity that many consider important for security.
The Patriot Act is a messy piece of legislation in some areas, but it doesn't actually reduce any civil liberties. It just reduces privacy in areas where people interact with businesses and other organizations. That's not friendly, but it's not unconstitutional.
There are plenty of laws passed in the past year or three that are unconstitutional, including the Military Commissions Act. Those are the threats to civil liberties, because those deliberately and systematically say the constitution can be ignored at will.
{EDIT} ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And for those who keep asking what civil liberties we've lost, here are the most recent. Denial of right to counsel. Denial of due process. Abrogation of the confrontation clause. Denial of the right against self-incrimination. Denial of the right to assemble. Denial of the right to petition for redress of grievances. Loss of habeas corpus.
Those were MY rights that were taken. Just because I've never had a need to invoke them doesn't make them any less mine. And just because you haven't needed them yet doesn't make them any less yours.
As a society, we only have those rights we choose to defend. Only those rights we can defend. And if we do not defend them, we lose them. Once, and for all of us.

Patriot Act conserves liberties for the people in power.
See how it works now?
Look up the Military Commission Act. Then read about what CENTCOM wants to do.
Make the US more secure. That means more secure from the government as well.

Any liberties we've lost are not able to be documented. Why would they make it that way? Why would they corner themselves like that? Please.
Do you know that they have opened research on implanting micro chips into newborns in order to track all Americans?
Do you know that they spy on your email accounts without any way of knowing?
We may be preventing a terrorist attack, but what we don't realize is all the things that are going on behind our backs are destroying what this nation was founded on in the first place.
Down with the Patriot Act.

I do not agree with the liberals' interpretation of the Patriot Act.
I think the Patriot Act is consistent with the government's position in the war against terror.
I agree with Coragryph, to a point. I also do not agree with the liberals' interpretation of the MCA.
The MCA was liberal appeasement. A compromise on the "extraordinary renditions."

Nothing is going to hurt you, we just want to protect you. Don't worry about little things like "habeus corpus" or "wire tapping" or "Being held without trial or charges", these don't apply to you. Just be a good sheep, sorry, I meant citizen and we wont bother until we need to. Notice what the other sheep have said-There- that should reassure you. Listed below are the kind of things you should watch out for, as then you may be in trouble, Until then,

What liberties have you personally lost ?
Security of the United States should not be a conservative or liberal issue, both parties should support making the US secure.

Please edit your post, and show us exactly what freedoms and rights you are losing as an American citizen.
It's easy to come here and complain, now put up or shut up.
