I have to write a final paper for my college course. The topic is Church cover-ups and Religion in America. I am having trouble finding research material about this.

What kind of "church cover-ups" are you talking about? Other than talking to people in each and every church in the community or country, good luck.

Do some research on the Vatican. That should give you ALL the information you need. They have there own government. They can cover up anything they want. Have you ever seen that movie "Stigmata?" Have you ever heard about the lost books of the "Bible?" Ever read the "DaVinci Code?" Also research the Templar Knights. The Roman Catholic and the things that happened a long time ago in Europe directly effect how that religion is now in the U.S. The most obvious because of all of the media attention is the scandal to cover up the child molestation by the Catholic Priests. Another interesting topic would be the Church of Latter Day Saints, also known as the Mormons. They are based in Utah. I am sure you heard about that thirteen year old girl that went missing a few years ago in Salt Lake City. It turns out that this guy who already had a wife kidnapped her and made her another one of his wives. Mormons are most known for their polygamy. They have many cover-ups in that church. Tax evasion is a big one for some of them. Read up on it. If you do use the Mormons in your paper you are sure to get a pleasing grade!!!

If you think you need real material on this, you don't understand the assignment. Your teacher is apparently convinced that there is more going on than any evidence suggests. The evidence is an egg thrown at your house. The conclusion is that there is a conspiracy to cover-up the existence of a chicken farm. The evidence is that he found a golf ball on his lawn. The conclusion is that there's a secret golf course next door.
You don't need evidence. You just need some wild theories and point to the lack of evidence as proof of the coverup. Tim Burton is actually Billy Graham's love-child. The proof of the coverup is that even the tabloids have never published the story. Bob Jones University is run by aliens. The fact that they have never denied it is all the proof you need.
Know your audience. If your professor wasn't convinced that all churches are up to something, he'd never have thought this one up.
