i did all my piercings myself...2 labrets and my tongue. and my daughter's lip piercings...i'm not suggesting ppl do this themselves!! i did a lot of research on where to pierce according to nerve areas, etc....none of ours got infected. piercings are tender as they heal. small bumps are a sign of scar tissue forming, which is building a "base" to keep the barbell from pushing it's way out of the body (rejection of the foreign body) it sounds like you could be slightly allergic to the metal...sterling silver rarely rejects because it has natural anti-biotic properties. titanium is good too. my advice is to wash it with antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day. and use a triple antibiotic ointment. you can even use the solution they give you for ear piercings. you have to move the barbell up and down, and twist it while washing it, to make sure the entire area is getting cleansed. it's not uncommon to have a "crust" form around it...soft tissue piercings are going to be tender, and take up to a year to fully develop scar tissue and heal. try to keep clothing from pressing or rubbing against it, and allow air to get to it so that it stays as dry as possible. if the piercing site swells to double it's size, gets very red and hot, is draining a lot of pus, and you run a fever, you have an infection and need to go to the doctor for oral antibiotics. good luck with this.

It just sounds as if you're piercing is still healing. Bellybutton rings generally take around 6 months to heal, but can take as long as a full year depending on your body. Continue cleaning your piercing 2-3 times a day with either anti-bacterial soap (I always used Satin) or doing sea salt soaks (1/4 tsp sea salt dissolved in an 8 oz. glass of warm distilled water). Don't touch it unless you've washed your hands. Don't use alcohol or peroxide. After a month it should be nowhere near healed. If the soreness gets worse or it starts pussing a greenish color, then go back to your piercer for instructions.

I got mine pierced a little over a year ago and it got infected and took quite a while to heal. Every time you are in the shower, use DIAL anti-bacteria soap (liquid) and move the barbell up and down as you wash it and then rinse it real good while moving it up and down. Keep at this for awhile and it will eventually get better, I promise. Mine is18 karat gold and it still got infected.

As an RN, you should probably go see a doctor. If an infection doesn't appear better with peroxide or any other treatment you are doing yourself, it's not going to clear up on it's own and you are risking your health. A doctor may or may not make you remove it. You won't know until they look at it. They might have a suggestion to treatment. Ask yourself if worrying about the $60 is worth risking a more serious infection or sepsis (infection of the bloodstream)?

It shouldn't hurt and it sounds like it's infected. Also they shouldn't have used the pretty jewelry when they pierced it.It should've been a plain barbell.I just had to take my nosering out.I've had it pierced 8 times and I'm just leaving it out this time.I know it's hard, especially since you spent a lot on it(too much actually.should have been around 20.00).I've never had an infection, but you need to see a doctor before it gets worse.A young lady just lost her breast due to an infected nipple piercing.

You may have a contact dermatitis to the metal in the ring. If any pus or thick green / yellow muck is discharging then it may be wise to remove the ring and give things a good clean. Your best bet is to go to your family doctor

the same exact thing happened to me, I changed my barbell to a circle ring and it healed much faster, but i still cleaned it twice daily and moved it around. If you do touch it, always wash your hands first!!! you'll enjoy it once it clears up. Hope it gets better soon!

(i got mine pierced 1 month ago with my bff's) well, i just got hydrogen peroxide over it and stuff... good times... bad times... odd times

I KNOW WHATS WRONG THAT HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND JUST STICK TO ONE CLEANER IF ITS A HOOP ROTATE IT THERE SHOULD BE SOME PUSS AND KEEP CLEANING IT AND IN A FEW DAY ( 4) THE PAIN SHOULD GO AWAY BUT YOU HAVE TO ROTATE IT FOR THE PUSS TO COME OUT.
GO BACK TO WHERE YOU DID AND TELL THEM THAT ITS SHOULD BE A HOOP FIRST AND WHEN IT HEALS THEN PUT THE BARBELL. THATS YOUR PROBLEM.
