All three consoles do have a unique side to them. For example PS3 has the best multi-media experience (even Divx is supported), Wii will have a new way to play games that actually works and 360 has the best online system in place.
But if you are looking at Wii or PS3...Two questions to ask, do you want the best Graphics experience? Go for a PS3. Do you want the best Gameplay experience? Get a Wii.
Most importantly what kind of games are you looking for?
If you want hardcore games the PS3 will have more than the Wii. Games like FFXIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 are there for PS3. Wii has games like Zelda and Red Steel.
If you want a system with exclusives clearly go for the Wii. Wii currently has more exclusive games than the PS3 and that isn't because of first-party titles either. Most games on the PS3 are being ported to the 360 while most developers are working on exclusive titles from the ground up for Wii not to mention brand new games.
If you want a system that has casual games the PS3 will have casual games online but the Wii will have the most, even if you are looking for games like Big Brain Academy; it's there on the Wii.
If you want a great online experience it's hard to say which one is better. Both Wii and PS3's online system is free. PS3 is similar to Xbox Live which hardcore gamers would love while Wii's online is meant to be a user-friendly system for everyone. Wii's online system also allows the console to stay active while turned off so you can get uploads to your machine like brand new weapons for a game etc. If you are in a rush for online games go for the PS3 because the Wii's system won't be online playable till Q1-2007.
If you are old-school, clearly the Wii is the top choice. NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16 and N64 games will be available from day one and 10 additional games will be added every month.
So it's up to you, once you find what you are looking for you'll find the right console.

ps3 hands down, but it costs an arm&leg. The Wii costs $330 something ( including warranty and one game ) whilst the ps3 will REALLY cost $800 something ( including warranty and one game ) and not the suspected price of $600 , I have 2 things to say to you.
1. If your like the regular person and don't have endless amounts of cash, opt for the Wii, yeah, Nintendo has a reputation for kiddy games but hey, it's hard times man, hard times.
2. If your filthy stinking rich or just have cash to spare, get the ps3. better games and graphics is what you get with the ps3 at the cost of buying a car or putting a down payment on an apartment. Also u cant buy the ps3 until March 2007 due to high demand, u can only reserve it ( good luck reserving it 2 weeks before it launches ).
Conclusion: i Would just save for the ps3. Why? the Wii has a crappy controller and will indefinitly have the kiddy game- no good games -in -a -while curse. plus you can STILL play psone and ps2 games on the ps3. I dont care for gamecube games enough ( besides Metal Gear ) to play them on a superior system which also has crappy kiddy game problems.

"Better" is a subjective word. Which is more "powerful"? PS3 is, definitely. Which is more "innovative"? Wii is, definitely. Which is more "expensive"? PS3. Which will give you more value for your money? I would say Wii will.
You want to ask questions such as the last question above, or questions like "Which do you think will be more popular?" or "Which will have a longer lifespan, so that it's worth purchasing the system for the longevity factor?" or "Which has the more exciting features of the system?".
I believe that if your main concern is graphics/processor power, then go for the PS3, if you can afford it, and if you can wait that long for the supply to meet the demand (My personal opinion is that you won't be able to find one anywhere until March/April 2007 due to shortage of supply). However, if your concern is trying something new and extremely innovative (the next big turn in video game evolution), and not the same old thing with just better graphics, then try the wii. Because of the wii's special motion-sensing remote controller, it's going to grab the attention of the entire nation, and eventually it's going to be a worldwide phenomenon. Nintendo was trying to do something new and drastic, so that they can get more people, more non-gamers and more previous-gamers-who-quit playing, and more young-&-old-gamers, to be interested in video games again. Thus, in my opinion, the wii will be more popular (better) than PS3. Just look also at how many games will be available by Christmas this year, 32 Wii games and 30 Virtual Console games (old NES, SNES, N64, SegaGenesis, TurboGrafx16 games). More and more 3rd party developers will make games for the Wii (it wouldn't be good business practices to ignore its popularity). And thus, more and more people will think yes, the Wii is better.
Don't get me wrong, PS3 will still be popular with the HARDCORE gamers... but it'll be like in the 80's/90's when almost everyone had an Atari2600 or NES. Most families will purchase the Wii because of its affordability, its innovation, and it's family-oriented (as well as having adult-oriented games too).
Be fortunate that we were born in a generation that we have so much to look forward to. And in an age that will experience a video game evolution.
Read this excerpt from IGN Wii's editor-in-chief, Matt Casamassina's review of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess:
"...After 10 minutes, playing Twilight Princess with the Wii remote and nunchuk feels good. You have to understand that the remote does not suddenly bring one-to-one swordplay to the table, which seems like an eventuality for a future Zelda game. But even without it, the control still works just fine. It is not clumsy by comparison to the [Gamecube] build and your arms will absolutely not grow tired and fall off. If you want to, you can make those exaggerated and dramatic full-arch movements as seen in Nintendo Wii promos to control Link's sword swipes. But by no means is playing that way a necessity. You could play like I do, which is just to subtly shake the controller to and from every time you want to perform a swipe. Keep shaking it and Link will continue to slash at enemies. It's not difficult. It's not messy. It works every time and it feels pretty damned good. In fact, after an hour or two with the game, you start to really prefer this method to more traditional controls. There is something more tangible to it. It might seem like a little thing, but shaking the remote in lieu of pressing a button more accurately conveys the sense that you're in control of a sword. It honestly, truly does. And I'm neither lying nor brainwashed when I state that, given the choice, there is no way I would go back to the old control scheme."
After reading this, you can imagine the endless possibilities in other genres in video games. And people will believe that once they try this new remote, they will never want to go back to the old analog controller.
So... Yes, imho, Wii is and will be better than PS3 (as well as Xbox360). If I had the money, I would also buy the PS3, but as most people wouldn't be able to afford both (as well as an HD TV?!?), for me, I'm only buying the Wii.

based just on the controller the PS3 will beat the wii since Playstation in my view has made the best controller on the market to date. Along with the wii controller something out of a sci-fi movie. Also PS3 will have a much better game play and more adult games instead of games projected to little children which the wii i'm guessing will target

Live alone? Got the money? You like online? Good graphics a must? Want Kingdom Hearts 3, Grand Theft Auto, or the next Final Fantasy game? Get a PS3.
Have friends? Have family? Low budget? Want to try a new immersible experience? Ever want to drum in a band, conduct and orchestra, or bat a homerun? You drooling over Twilight Princess and Smash Bros. Brawl? Get a Wii.
It all depends, really. Considering that I'm a 15-year-old that lives with two sisters and parents, has a gamecube, and a decent-sized living room, we believe in the Wii.
