Position the tank where it is not in direct sunlight. Leave the light off for at least some of the time.
If the algae persists then try adding a few more plants to the tank, as this will take up the nutrients that the algae needs to thrive. Check the water does not have too high phosphate level.
A couple of small catfish is often a good idea as they will help to keep the glass and stones clean, and they are quite hardy fish.

You can clean the gravel and wipe the algae off the side of the tank the next time you clean the tank. As far as completely stopping the algae, you can buy a plecostomus or a catfish to eat the algae or you could buy an algae treatment. Personally, I've had more luck with the pleco. The algae treatments rarely work for a significant amount of time.

This happenened to my tank and I found out that I had the tank too close to the window, something to do with too much sunlight getting into the tank. I cleaned out the tank and moved it now my tank is looking lovely. There are a few different kinds of algae some good and some not so good check out the site below for more info and click on article library.

Buy a type of algae eater that will be just fine around your other fish. Plus you could go to the pet store and always ask which kind will eat almost any kind of algae and be ok with the rest of your fish. Good Luck.

It depends on the type of algae, the most damaging to a marine tank is red and hair algae, for which there is a algaecide.

1. Boil the gravel. Allow the gravel to dry.
2. Buy a magnet scraper and scrape your whole tank.
