america's foreign policy has the appearance of being imperialistic.

The USA always seem to be in everyone's else's business. That's why we are so hated.

Well, let's see... An empire always extends its military might beyond its own borders, hmm Yup, we do that, in fact, we have troops pretty much stationed all over the globe, as we speak. An empire forces others to follows its rules, and doesn't care about what others think. Hmmm... on both accounts, we do...abosultely. We not only don't care about what Iraqis want, we couldn't care less about what the whole world wants. The whole world didn't want this war, but we said f..u, and we did it. The whole world wanted Kyoto, and what did we do? ... f...them again. An empire always is self-serving, whatever it does, it does so for its own interests, not those it invades. I have to say that we do fit the mold, again. No wonder why the whole world sees us as an empire, we say we don't act like an empire, but those we beat up, say we do. We rule by proxy, that means we don't have to invade and stay there, we put governments that obey us, and in turn they do our dirty work for us. If they don't listen, then we come in and replace them with someone who will... case in point...Sadam Hussein.
So... yes, you bet we are an empire, a growing empire at that; you have to live under a rock not to realize that, by now.

Yes USA is an imperialistic nation - constantly wanting what other countries have (usually oil).

Claiming that it is spreading democracy - thats just another word for evangelizing - forcing other countries to become democratic.

If that is America's idea of democracy - then I want no part of it thank you very much.

never. in case you prefer to make certain a suitable occasion of a fascist imperialist u . s . a ., then examine out China. It has a gadget of government that greater heavily resembles a mature fascist state than something. and how it devoured up Hong Kong and Tibet, with its eyes on ingesting Taiwan, too (plus it relatively is invasion tries into Vietnam), to boot as cultivating a good presence in (oil rich) places like Sudan, and you have examples of one of the main imperialist states extant. usa is neither fascist (as long as we shop opposing the Democrats) neither is it imperalistic.

No, we are not. An "Imperialistic Nation" implies that we attack other countries to make them part of the "American Empire".

If we were, we wouldn't be supporting the countries we've freed to have free democratic elections.

I am quite sure that if the Iraqis put a binding resolution up for the vote and the vote came up that they wanted us to leave ASAP, we would.

Yes. The idea that we are trying to just make a democracy is false. We want a democracy that is friendly to us. We want a democracy in our own image. If Iraq became a democracy that embraced actions that we did not like, then would we still support their rights to democracy? I seriously doubt it.

BTW, the US has other protectorates like Puerto Rico and Guam. Obviously, we have a mini-empire.

Depends on your definition. If your definition includes setting up satrapies in the world's countries, then no. If it includes trying to foster representative democracies with respect for personal and property rights throughout the world, then yes.

America is a nation that from its conception has been about certain people doing exactly what they want and not taking crap from anyone. Unfortunately this is not always in the best interest of its people.

occurence.
