It depends on the person themselves. If you travel alot, or if you are very seldom home, I recommend a cat. They can pretty much take care of themselves if you leave water and food out for them, and a litter box. If you have time in your day to walk a dog, and play with him and give him attention, I them recommend a dog! Also their are so many breeds of dogs, and they are all not for every person either, you really need to study the breed you like, and if you still think that is the one for you, go for it! Some breeds, I would never want, and their are some people out there that would just love to have those certain breeds. It take alot of thinking about what is exactly right for YOU!!! Good luck!

I prefer a cat, I have never been successful with a dog because of the odor they produce and the dirt tracking in and out every time they have to go potty, they are clumsy and can't be left at home for long periods of time. A cat is clean, smells nice and uses the bathroom in doors, very graceful as well, can also be left home for long periods of time.

Depends on the person-cats need less care and are pretty self-sufficient.Clean the litter box as often as you want, fill the food/water bowls when they're empty, make sure they get their shots and yearly vet check-ups,pat him every once in a while, and you're good.Dogs need more care, but it's so much more rewarding!Dogs can be taught tricks, are very loyal, are capable of defending you if the need arises, they're cute,playful...the list goes on.Depends on how much time you have to spend on the animal i guess.

Dogs. Number one, you can find dogs that don't shed and very, very few cats don't shed. Cats seem more temperamental; one second they're enjoying being petted and the next they scratch you. Dogs can get upset, but they are more forgiving and will love you if you love them. They will also protect you and are loyal through even the toughest times.

Dog . They are more in tune with their owners and able to communicate more . That's one reason you don't see guide-cats . The bottom line is one's own preference . To some people , cats become their children - just like for dog owners-so you can't really decide for someone else what will work for them .

I have both, so it depends on your lifestyle. Dogs are usually more affectionate (not always) but they require more care. If you want to go away for a weekend, you have to board them or have someone come in to take care of them. Cats you can leave food, water & a litter box & say, "Have a nice weekend!"

dogs of cours. Dogs don't play in the litter box and then jump into your food on the sink. Dogs don't "charge" at you in the middle of the night. Dogs go outside and you don't have to clean the "litter box". Dogs are much more loving and caring and compassionate

Dogs. They are loyal, loving and never talk back. Cats are too independent and want everything on their terms (just like a man - LOL).
