The reason i ask is because it seems like home field/home court advantage isn't TOO big of an advantage, i see road teams winning all the time. In the nfl there will be weeks where away teams will go 11-3. So my question is....how big of an advantage is it really?

It depends on the sport. In baseball for example the size of the outfield is different for every field. So the players who play on that field for most of their games have an advantage. In Basketball it's a matter of consentration. When you have tens of thousands of fans yelling at you it can be a distraction. When you get into pro-sports it isn't as much of a change since most of the players have been dealing with it for a number of years and are used to it. In College and High School sports it can make a big difference because the players are less mature. Football it is less of a factor, except for the fact that it energizes a player to have a large number of people cheering for them.

It's more of a physiological advantage. Then again, speaking from experience, it can be harder because you don't want to dissapoint your fans. All in all I think it's a little bit more of an advantage because there's always someone cheering for your colors, where when you're on the road you never know how many fans will be there supporting your team.
