You want to forget about someone and all the events involving that person or forget about an event that was bad, so you mentally tell yourself over and over that it never happened and you picture that memory vanishing and then you don't remember it anymore.

But if someone asks you if something happened then yeah you'd tell them the truth that it happened. But you tell yourself it never happened so you won't think about it.

Healthy or what? Suggestions?

whatever makes you feel better? It all up to you! But i don't see nothing wrong if it helps you.

When you tell yourself it never happened you are still remembering it. The best thing is to let go of it emotionally. Whatever happen happened. You can't change that. But you can change your attitude towards it. It's not the memory that hurts. It's the feelings you remember and attach to that memory that hurts. Let go or change the emotional attachment to the memory is the best thing.
There's nothing wrong with feeling bad or sad about what happened. But if you keep living in the past, then it isn't okay.

I personally do not believe it is a good idea to lie to yourself. Now having said that, if the person can put it in a visualized mental filing cabinet and say to themselves, I have given this enough thought I will not think about it any longer, and put it in the cabinet to be filed away. Anytime it tries to come back out, maybe you will think about it for a minute or not and then...say to yourself, I have dealt with you enough and I am moving on and picture a drawer or door closing and swipe it from your mind. Purposely start to think of something else or do something else and you can move on. It does work. Good Luck. :)

All things that happen to us in our lives, no matter if positive or negative, they play a part of who we are today. They are life's lessons. For the bad things, we need to find places to put them so that they don't affect our everyday living... and you are kidding yourself by saying you have made them vanish. I have done some bad things in my youth, and I have made some bad choices and decisions.. but I would not change anything because I am ok with who I am today, and my past is what made that happen.

I think you'd better accept that it happened instead of denying this to yourself. If it DID happen, then it happened! Pushing it away will never get it out of your system. It might haunt you for a long time, with whatever uncomfortable feelings. If you accept that it happened, or that you did what you did, you will get over it.
Everyone makes mistakes. You learn and grow from it.

This must of been something awful. I think you should find some one professional to talk to. You have to face your situation before you can start forgetting it and it sounds like you really haven't. So find some help and set yourself free so you can start living your life with all that behind you. Good luck!

If there is a problem, the best way of dealing with it is to discuss it with a friend, preferably a professional. What u are talking about is called suppressing. Not a good idea.
