Anyone who has read Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry; what did you think of it?

I am asking this for I have read the book and liked it a lot. I have not found a person yet that liked that book too.

I distinctly remember my fifth grade class reading that book, and I remember not liking it, though I have no idea why... I don't remember anything about the book except for a fire that burned crops at the end?

I don't remember what it was about, but I remember reading it, and that I liked it too.
