Both refer to philosophical positions, but are usually applied to political movements that embody those philosophies.

Liberals favor growth, change, flexibility. They tend to be more dynamic and driven, but often less organized. In the political arena, liberals favor progressive reform and the protection of civil liberties.

Conservatives favor tradition, conformity, and slow (if any) change. They tend to be more organized, but occasionally stagnant. In politics, this can be split between those who seek minimal government interference with minimal government social programs, and those who want heavy government regulation to ensure national conformity.

In Canada Left is liberal or center, conservative is right wing.

Being conservative is beleiving in rule of law and respect, not changing just because one group wants more rights than another group, less government and less taxes, and to allow people to grow on their own abilities and associations.

Liberals are like promoters, changing all the time, beleive in telling you how to live as in big brother approach well in Canada. Liberal also means changing to the fluctuation of polls, it is hard for me to say what a liberal is in canada they seem never to follow a straight line in their ideology. We have a left wing for that with a leader nicknamed Taliban Jack.

To me a rule should be equality with understanding as in girl teams boy teams, not one group should get more freedoms than another group but our constitution does that with reverse discrimination created by the liberals who think that they know better than you an average joe.

Comes from schools of thought regarding the proper Constitutional interpretation.

Liberals embrace the notion that the Constitution is "a living, breathing document." Those are buzz-words. The C should change with the feelings of the people.

Conservatives embrace the notion that the best interpretation comes from the intent of the framers. Also believe in the common law as the rule of law (stare decisis).
