Registered Nurse Here; One gets an urinary tract infection for a number of reasons. #1could be not adequate intake of water or other liquids.#2 A common reason in females is wiping in the wrong direction, a female should cleanse themselves from front of vagina backwards towards anus. Reason being, when one cleanse from anus towards front they drag bacteria called e. coli along with the cleaning. Since the urethral the tube from urinary opening to bladder is only about 1/2" to 11/2" in the female, this also allows bacteria to enter rather easily. Where as on the male the utherea is much longer, approximately 4"to 6", which make it really difficult for bacteria to the distance from the opening of the penis to the bladder, in the male.

Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection: Painful urination, burning sensation, or pain, cloudy or bloody urine(Advanced Stage of Infection). urine dark , also low grade fever and general feeling of just not having much energy, tire easily, irritable. Then symptoms usually increase to painful urination, letting one know where the infection is. One should certainly seek medical attention, for untreated Urinary Tract Infections, can and do lead to kidney inflammation and or disease.

If anyone, man or woman, has lived long enough I think they've had at least one. Urinary track infections can be caused from kidney infection or an over-produtive yeast build-up. Yeast naturally forms in the bladder from the foods we eat. A certain amount of this is normal and essential for proper health. Over-production will result in a white film in your urine after peeing and itching will usually result. A severe case can result in some blood in your urine, sometimes noticable; sometimes the blood is detected by a urinary analysis done by peeing in a cup. The doctor will take it from there. Don't allow any of these facts to scare you...there's help ( I don't want to suggest a medicine because all docs have their preferences).

Cystitis, a common condition, is usually caused by a bacterium from the anus entering the urethra and then the bladder. This leads to inflammation and infection in the lower urinary tract.

Certain people are more likely to get UTIs. Women tend to get them more often because their urethra is shorter and closer to the anus. Elderly people (especially those in nursing homes) and people with diabetes also get more UTIs.

In addition, the following risk factors increase the chances of getting a UTI:

Pregnancy and menopause
Kidney stones
Sexual intercourse, especially if you have multiple partners or use a diaphragm for birth control
Prostate inflammation or enlargement
Narrowed urethra
Immobility (for example, during recovery from a hip fracture)
Not drinking enough fluids
Bowel incontinence
Catheterization

The symptoms of a UTI include:

Pressure in the lower pelvis
Pain or burning with urination
Frequent or urgent need to urinate
Need to urinate at night
Cloudy urine
Blood in the urine
Foul or strong urine odor

Additional symptoms may include:

Painful sexual intercourse
Penis pain
Flank (side) pain, vomiting, or fever and chills (may be a sign of kidney involvement)
Mental changes or confusion (in the elderly, mental changes or confusion often are the only signs of a urinary tract infection; possible spread to the blood should be considered)

First just unconfortable down there, frequent urination.
Prolonged: Lower back pain, fever even vomitting.
Go See The Doctor. Do not delay.
Leaving a UTI unchecked can cause scarring leaving an array of other problems, you don't want. Don't leave it for more than a week and definately not two!!
There are different causes. Bacteria making contact with that area. Even bubble baths, soaps. Wiping from back to front instead of front to back after using rest room.

I've had it twice, though not for several years now. It is caused by bacteria getting into your urinary track. Peeing immediately after sex can help prevent it, as can drinking cranberry juice and of course, just plain good hygiene. The symptoms are feeling as though you need to pee even though you don't, a burning sensation when you do, blood mixed in with your urine, and you can also have discomfort in your kidneys if the infection has travelled up. It gets treated with antibiotics, and you should drink lots of liquids (especially cranberry juice).

Ugh, no fun at all. There are lots of different symptoms. In cases where they are just starting, you may have painful or burning urination, the feeling that you HAVE to go NOW, then not have hardly any pee at all, and then feel as if you are not quite finished. When it gets really bad, it can cause, high fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, ad you may have pain in your back right under your rib cage on one or both sides. The best way to treat this is by getting antibiotics from your doctor, especially if you are pregnant..b/c it can cause you to go into labor if left untreated.

Hmmmm, I think that is it.

Symptoms of a urinary tract infection can include pain in the bladder area, frequent urination with low output, the feeling of having to urinate with no results, burning during urination, low grade fever, sometimes blood in the urine. To procrastinate getting medical help could cause severe problems; make a doctor appointment as soon as possible.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.
