yes, just had one 2 months ago...It is honestly not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I was scared to death because I listened to everyone, but it is a very short procedure. When u go in, u lie on the table and the doc inserts a clamp(this is a little crampy)if you breathe through the insertion it is easier, when the clamp and cath are in place the radiologist will tell the doc to start inserting the dye..this is done slowly ans is mildly crampy. They take x-ray pictures of your ovaries, tubes and uterus...they will ask you to turn slightly to each side and then you are done. After there is some cramping but I found it to be less than period cramps. You will be able to see the pictures on the screen after the procedure..it is pretty neat. They usually tell you if it looks good or not right there, but you still see the doctor to discuss the results a few days later. I was told by several people and my ob/gyn that this procedeure increases the chances of conception for some people. It did not for me because I wasn't ovulating.

Mine was painless but that is not everyone's experience. They put a speculum in and that was uncomfortable because it was in for so much longer than a regular exam, but not painful. My cervix has a crook in it so it took them a few tries to get the catheter in. That was a strange sensation but again, not painful. The dye through the tubes part did not hurt for me at all, I didn't feel anything. Other people report that this part hurt a lot. I guess it depends on your tubes and whether they are blocked. Mine were not at all blocked. I got to watch it on the screen (it's an x-ray) and that was pretty cool.

They told me to take 4 advil an hour before the procedure to prevent cramping. I did do that and did not have cramping, but to be honest my HSG was so easy I kind of think I wouldn't have had any cramping anyway.
