No hanging!! He should be left to rot in prison for the rest of his life.

Wow. Saddam deserves the sentence he was given by the Highest Court in his land why should an appeal be considered ?There is no doubt left. I do not know the Laws of Iraq But why does the public need to be punished by having to look at this spectacle I do not understand.

While the man's atrocities are well known and well documented, I am having a difficult time agreeing with this sentence. Why is he being martyred? That is EXACTLY what the Shiites want -- a martyr. This will bring no end to the trouble.

Life in prison? Absolutely, and with no visitors or means of public discourse. Death? He's not worth the price of the rope to hang him.

Oops, my bad -- Saddam is Sunni, not Shiite.

Of course it should go to appeal.

The sentence should be deferred to life imprisonment in an old style Iraqi type prison. Preferably off Iraqi soil.

What sort of uncivilised nation do you come from - or need I ask - hanging people for public entertainment is abhorrent to anyone with a civilised upbringing surely?

As is, of course, calling for people to fry over the public radio but I understand that that happens in one of the largest "civilised" countries in the world.

Who would a public hanging deter? There are not many people in Iraq who are likely to become the next Head of State with any evil intentions - and those that are would not be detered by a public hanging.

He is an appalling man - I agree with the war and with the trial but not with the sentence. I do not agree with putting anyone to deathe although I do sometimes think that to do so may be kinder to some people. But it is inappropriate in a civilised society - also an innocent man or woman dying would be unpardonable (in both meanings of the word!).

Yes he should be given the same rights as if he was tried in any other democratic country because allowing them to become a democratic country is why so many of our soldiers have lost their life's.

We should also appeal to the Iraq government not to hang him as this is against our laws and we have no right to support and condone a country for doing something we feel is wrong.

Also hanging him is an end to his suffering he should be imprisoned for life so he suffers for longer.

The American people did not pass this verdict the Iraqis did.
The decision will go before a 9 judge appeal panel and after that have 30 days to carry out the sentence.

I read that his appeals could take four to six weeks at most, and once he appeals and they file the appellate verdict they have 30 days to carry out the sentence. I think he should FOR SURE hang for his crimes...but he's only being charged with one of the many crimes he's committed.

yes its the system ...if you didn't agree with the verdict do you think you should be denied the right to appeal.... even though we all know the verdict ...me personally don't want to see it when its over sure I will be told

His case will automatically go to appeal. It will probably be 5 years before he hangs.
