Talk to your midwife, 6 weeks out is a lot. Surely then baby is far too big/small.

Mine were out by about 4 days, and they would not amend them as it was less than a week.

Good luck.

You dont say how far into the pregnacy you are....

If this is your first scan, then dont worry too much as you'll have another at 20 wks, you can ask them to check the dates then.

If your convinced that the dates are wrong then ask your midwife about a second scan to ensure that the dates are correct as yes, an inexperianced person could get them wrong.

Good luck and try not to worry.

I don't think they can be that far out. A week maybe, but a baby develops an awful lot during six weeks. A dating scan measures the baby in many different ways to give a fairly accurate age, your baby would be much bigger/smaller if there was six weeks difference.

An ultrasound done very early on in pregnancy (first trimester) is fairly accurate as the embryo does not vary that greatly in size when it's that small. The later the ultrasound is done, the more variance there is in the size of the fetus and thus the less accurate the ultrasound dating is.

Yes, the dates of your last period can be off (you can have some spotting that you thought was a period in your first month), the child can be large (thats what happened to me) and the baby can just take longer or shorter than the average nine months. The baby comes when it is ready, not by anyone elses calendar.

The dates are determine by the size of the baby. So the dates are estimates only.

yes this can happen especially if at the time of the scan the baby is lying in the wrong position and dont be surprised if they get the sex wrong either as these do happen and nothing is 100%

Please dont rely on awnsers here, merely use them in addition to what you get told from the hospital.
Call the Marie Stopes Clinic, as well as your local Midwifes dept. They will be the best source of unbiased information. Good Luck, and enjoy your pregnancy, it is an amazing thing to expeience.
