I am a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter holder.
Opportunities are obviously in finance, specifically in the investing in securities. The CFA designation is highly desirably for the following areas:
Investment banking (e.g. research, sales, capital markets, syndication)
Investment management (e.g. portfolio management, research, trading)
Insurance (e.g. assurance, portfolio management)
Corporate finance (e.g. M&A, strategic development, treasury, finance)
In my experience, it was three hard years of giving up my evenings and weekends to study, but it was worth it. Hard to say how much it helped my in terms of $$$, but it helped me on the job.
If you want to be an I-banker, hedge fund manager, portfolio manager or broker - this is the way to go.
