A person before me said this was a dumb question. Actually, it's not. Would you ever think to ask this question? No, you wouldn't. You just know biscuit is the name of a delicious bread. Why is the whale in 'Moby Dick' white?! This is not a dumb question at all. This person doesn't know what the bi in biscuit means, and would like to know! This is a very smart question to ask! Use your imagination, people!

Now, bi means two. That's all I can answer for you. Why is a biscuit called a biscuit? I don't know. Maybe it starts with bi because a lot of people split it in two?

The origin of the word "biscuit" is from Latin via Middle French and means "twice cooked".

So then, are Triscuits cooked three times?

Here's the origin. I was hoping someone would ask ....

[Middle English bisquit, from Old French biscuit, from Medieval Latin bis coctus : Latin bis, twice; see dwo- in Indo-European roots + Latin coctus, past participle of coquere, to cook; see pekw- in Indo-European roots.]

bi means 2, so I guess it would 2 scuits.

Actually it is a 2 syllable word, the first being bis, the second being cuit.
