I live in the south east US and had lots of moles.
I live across from a wooded area and the moles were attracted to my lawn because of the grub worms (mole menu item) that feed grass roots. I tried killing the grub worms, but it was too hard and ineffective. Besides they will just return later.Chewing
gum didn't work - they didn't eat it and choke. Traps were too unrealiable for me and didn't work. Water flooded the main chambers but didn't drown any moles. They just returned shortly afterwards. Compressing the mounds of dirt only rquires them to re-dig, not hard for a creature with a digging nature. A dog will destroy the yard, creating huge craters!
I got a couple of the "vibrating" tubes that one places in the ground. I didn't have a mole within 2 feet of the tube. Couldn't afford seven hundred battery operated tubes to place strategically around my yard, 3 feet apart. Beside I'm not sure it was the vibration or the bostuction to their intended tunnels.
I got a couple of cats, and every now and then a mole shows up on my back doorstep. Stiff and motionless.

The moles are looking for grub worms. Use grub worm control in June. Any home repair store will sell this. Water the grub control in to the ground or wait for a good rain. It forces the grubs up and the grub control down into the soil. One application works for the entire season. In a week you will see your grass grow as if you had just fertilized it.

One mole can tear up an entire lawn. The best trap is one that pulls the mole up into spikes. Never handle the traps with your hands, use dirty gloves. Moles have a keen sense of smell. Even bury the mole trap for a week to remove any human smell.

You can put down grub control if you see your grass isn't growing very well in May. They sometimes start earlier...than June. Grubs eat the grass roots, Moles eat the grubs. Your lawn gets ripped up in the process.

You can't really stop them, but there are ways to get rid of them. Find their tunnels(easy to do...soft spots in your yard. ) Get a hose and flood the tunnels. You may have to do this several times. Then you can get some spearmint gum and place sticks of it in the ground every 5 feet or so.(underground about 4 inches.) This will act as a deterrent.

Mole traps you put them in there little humped up tracks they make and then when the mole goes und it wham he get spiked.

I ffound one on e-bay I would suggest three or four to rid of the problem quickly.

Also once youve killed them or before, You can rent a roller that you pull behind you tractor to flatten all these mounds out its a big barrel you fill with water to add weight and then you just drive around and it flattens them back out. Good Luck

heres a link to the trap on ebay has picture too.

Greenthumb Nursery has bottles of natural coyote, mountain lion, and other predetor urine. Sounds gross, and it is, but if you put this around the yard and into the gopher holes, they will move on.

This is going to sound really disgusting.....I was told to put my cat's poop down the moles and gophers holes, then cover them up with dirt. They don't like cats and the smell will make them leave. It worked for me...Good Luck! (at least their sh*t is good for something! :-)
