There are many answers to this question. Historically, the best player(mainly on his batting) is of course Don Bradman. Based on bowling statistics, it has to be either Lillee, Marshall, or Spofforth(fred the demon spofforth destroyed the english batting in 1800 and something and he's the sole reason the ashes were invented). The best allrounder, obviously is the West Indian Gary Sobers. In today's cricket, the greatest batsmen are Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, etc. Every team has a candidate for the greatest player. Pakistan-Shoiab Akhtar, Zimbabwe-Andy Flower, and even weaker countries like Bangladesh-Habibul Bashar and Kenya-Steve Tikolo. Every fan has a different idea of who is the greatest cricketer. It's all a matter of opinion.

Don Bradman is the best in International cricket, I have not seen him playing, but his records says he was an extraordinary player. No current player can match his era.

Current list of players those who are doing well are Adam Gilchrist,Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulakar, Brian Lara, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Stephen Fleming, Kumar Sangakara, Mahela Jaywardne, M.Hussey and many more.......but no comparision with Don. We have to wait till someone to show the same aggression towards this game.

It is Sachin Tendulkar as he holds the record of most centuries in Test Cricket as well as One Day Internationals and most runs in One Day Internationals, which cannot be broken in the near future.

I'd say Adam Gilchrist. He's a fantastic sportsperson - he's really talented and brings so much to the game. When he gets going, there's not alot that can stop him!
