1. Choose an interesting subject (from your point of view);
2. read one or two texts (= newspaper articles) about it;
3. Take notes: A. use the exact words of the author between quotes (" ..."); or B. paraphrase what the author says (report what (s)he is saying in your own words);
4. prepare an outline (main ideas);
5. write the first draft (introduction, development, conclusion).

Note: when writing a paper, you may choose a controversial subject, like "creationism" vs. "evolutionism". In that case, you will have to take sides and explain why (argumentative paper). You may also choose to write an expository paper (about "Pluto", which is not considered a planet any more). In such a paper, you will just report the latest developments.
