With great difficulty. When we had a pond I don't think we ever managed to rid it of duckweed, it was recommended to us to get a filtering system installed, but we never did, it is now filled in after it was repeatedly emptied of fish by itinerant herons.

Duckweed is names as such because ducks love it! If your pond is big enough invest in a couple - problem solved! Otherwise there are various plants you can plant that keeps it at bay.

copper sulfate If you are good at math you can do it yourself ust make sure you get the right ppm (part per million) you will have to figure your pond in gallons there is a formula on the 50lbs bags you estimate acerage and average depth then read what plants your trying to rid of and you get your ppm then you figure your gallons and the ratio of copper sulfate to match your ppms and vola. your local fram store wil have the stuff in large amounts
you can buy small amounts at a garden store. Like I say the dirrections and equations are all on the bag. Here are some web sites to check out.

A water pump as it will recycle the water and stop all the crap growing. Also some bottom feeder fish will help.
