I have just purchased The Sims 2 Pets expansion pack, and have all other Sims games installed. Obviously The Sims 2 is very demanding of any OS, and requires an up-to-date video card. I did have an SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740 model card installed, (version 6.14.0010.3620, English) but my walls kept flashing red, as, I understand, is a common glitch with this expansion pack for those of us with older computers.
I subsequently downloaded a new video/graphics card, which is now the bane of my existence, having reduced my display from a maximum of 256bits, to just 4bits. Images are barely viewable, and most of my colour is now a blend of greyscale and very vague coloured dots.
I therefore desperately need advice on what card I should be downloading.
As stated, my system previously ran on SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740 so I need an upgrade to that, I require the return of my 256bit colour, and hopefully improved functioning for my game.

Ahh... well, what I wrote above was the information given to me when I ran the diagnostics programme. I know you can download upgrades/new drivers at SiS.com, I'm just not entirely sure which one to use... also, everything on my computer is now about five times larger than it was - icons, pop ups, everything. I'm really not sure how to resolve this. I'm hoping a download will correct all my problems in one go, but perhaps that's rather optimistic!!!

the biggest problem i think you may have with your existing card is the lack of pixel and shader model capablities, these are parts of the actual card that are responsible for advanced graphic reproduction which are a big part of modern games such as the sims
however the first task we need to do is return you to 256 colour of 16/32 bit colour
go to the following links and download the driver yyou need(you can find the exact driver by going to start>control panel>display properties>advanced>adapter> you will find your graphics adapter name and memory type their then download the appropriate link
sis 650.....http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php
sis 651.....http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php
sis m650/652.....http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php
sis 740.....http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php

once you download the driver you need you should install it then restart your p.c,this will complete the driver installation ,then return to display properties>settings to change the colour settings and resolution
however a up to date card such as a nvidia or ati card would make your games much more enjoyable and these cards are not that expensive,i.e you can buy a nvidia geforce 6200 for less than $40 and this card has pixel and shader model 3.0 and direct x 9.0 capabilities, plenty good enough for all new games, you can also get even cheaper cards such as a radeon 9550(pixel/shader model 2.0,would play sims no problem, and this can be bought for around £23
anyway try these sis drivers and see if you can sort out the colour problem, you should, but i would strongly recommend a new graphic card, its a good long term investment, specially if you like a good game now and again
good luck

the problem is that the card you have listed is not a card, its actually 5 different chipsets and your card is only 1 of them

sis also dont do add on cards, thats an onboard graphics chip which means you need to find out what the motherboard is.

if you have the chance open up the computer and look for the motherboard model number, it should start SiS then a number after that. put that into google and see what it comes up with
