Why do some men think it belittles them to compliment a woman?

Are they afraid that she might get confident and are they scared of it. Why do men always demand recongnition and do want to recongnize anyone else's effort? Ego yeah that could be it, it does not take anything away from them or lessen them in any way they why act this way? would like to hear what men have to say.

I think a lot of men do not do this because they have to live up to there ego that they are rock hard, they dont need anyone and there definitley not sissy's. They feel if they compliment a women then the women will think he is too emotinal or wimpy, and also guy's friends dont help either, if you've ever noticed there friends are always the first to laugh when they say something nice to a lady. But not all men are like that, my fiance' is very sensitive when it comes to me and he doesnt have a problem expressing his feelings and emotions, but to everyone else hes the total opposite because he's 6'3 muscular build and is a football player, so they automatically think he is a egotistical jock, which isnt true, he compliments me all the time and opens car doors, pulls out chairs and talks to me about evrything and i dont consider him to be a wimp, so i think its just all in mens heads that women and there buddies will look down upon them, i know this is long but i hope it helps!

Why do women make the false assumption that men are afraid of confident women? I can't speak for other men, but I'll tell you about my preference. There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. When a woman crosses that line, (as they often do) they begin to seem unattractive. Actually, they start to look stupid. A woman can only hold a guys affections with good looks for a short period of time. She needs to have more going on than this. Humility and modesty are much more attractive, but not because a man is intimidated by confident women. See, no matter how good looking a woman is, after a guys spends some time around her he'll begin to realize that she is really just an average mediocre woman.(no matter how pretty she is) and when she crosses that line between confidence and arrogance, she starts to look real stupid really fast. Women, don't let your confidence level exceed what you can back up. Case in point, if a guy compliments a woman too much, she'll start to act like she's more attractive than she really is. Then we lose interest because she starts looking stupid. We're not afraid of you, we just don't want you to start acting in a way that causes us to lose interest(acting stupid and overconfident) You're all just average, dear

It was much easier 20 years ago to give a woman a compliment.....because they actual took it as a compliment. Today, women are usually on the defensive (and who could blame them). A man must be careful when choosing to pay a compliment or it could be misconstrued as "hitting on her" or if said in the work place, sexual harassment.
Personally, I stopped paying compliments to any and all women because no matter how I say it..........they take it the wrong way!
