Honesty goes a long way in building a nation, just as it builds an individual character. An honest individual carries a weight and that enables him to score over others. Those who work with him rely on him and lean on him in moments of need and difficulty. Although it is difficult to practise, yet the basic principles of honesty and trustworthiness should be followed. The sheer impact of honest practise can move men to do honest work and that will solve a lot of problems of espionage and counterespionage.

Perhaps honesty here means ethics. If there is ethics, governing the actions of people, traders and manufacturers, the police and govt officials, meaning thereby that honesty is the cornerstone of government officials, that country is bound to prosper and flourish. Let us look the other way, those countries which are considered advanced, where the human development index is high, have all greater degree of honesty and ethics in the actions of the govt and its functionaries. In short it means rule of law prevails and dishonesty is discouraged. This is bound to lead to prosperity. Accordingly there is lot of suffering in people where there is less honesty and more corruption.
