In 5 years, Ichiro has hit more than 200 hits each year, won 5 Gold Gloves for his outfield play, scored more than 100 runs each year and stolen an average of 39 bases a season. He brings a quiet grace and sense of both seriousness and joy to the game.
He is well liked and very well respected in the USA, not only for his baseball skills but for his outstanding personality. The same excitement he brought to Japanese baseball with Orix, he brings to Major League Baseball.

Ichiro despite playing on a small market team is a well known player in the US and well liked by most fans. There were doubts he could be an impact player when he first came to the US. His talent quickly silenced all of his doubters.
Ichiro is a classic contact hitter in a power hitters era. So he is considered a really good hitter by all but often doesn't get the credit he would have if he'd been playing in the 70s for example. Today worthless power. Guys who hit 45 HRs but only drive in 90 RBI, half of them being themself get lots of headlines while good contact hitters are forgoten. Suzuki actually drives in more RBI than some of these all or nothing "power" hitters. So I think Ichiro is underated myself. Still he is considered a star player in the US. He has also set a couple records for single season stats. I feel that Ichiro will be enshrined in the US baseball HOF despite not having enough time in his career to reach stats normally required to be in the HOF.
Ichiro is considered a good defensive outfielder. He doesn't play center field so he will not be especially noted for defense. Right and left fielders are not considered skilled defensive posisitions. Think about it. Guys like Reggie Jackson made the hall of fame playing Right field despite an almost total defensive ineptitude. Reggie not only had no range. Every ball hit to him was an adventure even if it was hit right at him. Most really good defensive outfielders play center field. Ichiro could probably play Center. If Ichiro played Center then his offensive stats would take on a whole new and more important meaning. Being a compentent defensive player at Short, Catcher, Center and 2nd base is important. If a player can play well defensively at one of those positions and also hit extremely well then you have the all time greats like Willie Mays, Micky Mantle and so on. Right fielders and first basemen are expected to hit. If they can also play defensively it's a plus but not necessary.
In my opinon Ichiro is one of the 10 best offensive players in the game. Most MLB fans would probably rank him behind the all or nothing power hitters which would drop him into the top 20. That and the one season wonders like Dye, this years one season wonder or Derek Lee last years one season wonder.

Ichiro is a great player in America too. Many people have accepted him and many of the pitchers are learning that they have to respect him. He is such a great hitter. He set the major league record for hits in a single season in 2004 with 262 hits. He is also a great outfielder because he has one of the strongest arms in MLB and runs down almost every single ball hit within his range.

People like ichiro because he goes by one name and is the best japanese player in america. Ichiro has been long accepted in America. Hideki Matsui would not be playing in America if it werent for Ichiro. He is a great batter because he has the MLB record for most hits in one season, 262. He has won several gold gloves for his defense so of course Ichiro is a great outfielder too.

I think he has acceptance in America, I would say he is a great batter. Pitchers know they are going to have a hard time getting him out he always makes contact, he strikes out about as much as he walks as well which is always a good thing. I would say he is a good outfielder. Overall he is a very good player, but I would not say he is great.

Acceptance - not quite, because he plays for the mariners., not a big market team.
He is a great batter - you can always count on him to have a couple hits in a game. He is cool with his bat. arguably one of the best leadoff hitters at the moment.
He is a great outfielder. He does not make the highlight reel but he is very dependable. So I think he is a good outfielder.
If I have to start a team, he will be one of the first few guys I will hire. (in 2006)
