I had the same problem and I asked the propane gas man where I got it.. He said if the bottle has not been touched(whatever that means) for a long time, the new escape valve(on t the new bottles) gets (what he called) lodged and what I should do is take the small tank to the lawn and drop it on the ground several times ands that will (what he said) dislodge the mechanisms on the inside.. Well.. to make a long story short..IT WORKED

are you sure it has gass? Try opening the release valve on the side. Actually you should take the tank back to where you had it filled and they can weight it and then give you a new tank. What ever is safest.

20lb tanks have a valve that closes if they are tipped on their side, the tanks are supposed to remain upright. Sometimes this safty valve sticks. Dropping it on the ground may unstick the valve.
