This song was written for UNICEF, and Angetha is speaking to a small child (Chiquitita) living in despair and poverty, trying to give hope to the child. ABBA donated all royalties from this song to UNICEF.
The song was originally called In The Arms of Rozellita but Bjorn couldn't find a matching story, so changed the title.

Originally, this was called "In The Arms Of Rozellita." Bjorn Ulvaeus, who wrote the song, liked the title but couldn't find a matching story, so it became "Chiquitita." (thanks, royi - Rishon Le Zion, Israel)
This was written for a UNICEF benefit where ABBA performed the song. ABBA donated the rights for the song to UNICEF (which still owns them). (thanks, Vineeta - Rockville, MD)
