You'll need to fork out the roots carefully, as it only takes an inch of root to begin a new plant. The runners can go quite far so you will have to follow them round the garden and perhaps int othe lawn. In the spring new shoots can be treated as soon as they appear with Round up spray and it should kill down to the roots. I've been chasing it round my garden for years.

The trumpet creeper vines on ground, produces suckers and re-roots. The only way to remove I believe it is to dig it out, and any suckers that may already have set. You'll need to keep an eye out, and dig out roots as soon as you spot them. I've never found any weed killers, even systemic, which will totally kill it.

I see a lot of digging in your future.

The only person I can find who claims to have actually rid themselves of it dug out the roots completely. Burning, poisoning, cutting, and pulling are all useless.
