Unfortunately that's how printing companies catch you these days, making their printer prices unusually cheap and reeling it in with the cartridges.
Your best bet is to buy a cheap printer and one of the following options:
1. Visit http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/
2. Buy a refill kit and fill them yourself (be very careful of mixing colours)
3. See if you can grab some on eBay.
If you have an inkjet printer this shouldn't be a problem, however if you have a laserjet printer already (these aren't too cheap, but offer better print quality) then you must buy a toner cartridge, and unfortunately these also come at a price and cannot be refilled.
Hope this helps.

Lexmark printers are pretty reasonable to buy but are very expensive on the inks. But there again most other printers are the same. Epson is the only one I know where you can get reasonably price ink for The manufacturers say only use genuine inks that is wise if your printer is still under gaurantee because if you are found to be using other inks you can loose the gaurantee.

I easily have Lexmark printer , I take cartridge to community computing gadget save , they fill it for £6. Lasts an prolonged time, of direction printer tells me cartridge is empty, I take no recognize that, its because of the fact I`m utilising properly matched inks, it does`nt understand cartridge. while are those cartridge firms going to get the message, its obvious they're overcharging. All my pals are utilising properly matched inks at a fragment of the value of the huge manufacturers.

I have Lexmark z515. The printer is cheap. I buy the universal refilling kits from Argos and refill the cartridges myself. So it costs like a pound per refill or less. Not bad.

I have a canon Pixma 1500. a two Cartridge model which i find excellent. I do not use Canon ink. (to dear)
For the last year i have used Compatible cartridges from Printerinks.com. At a fraction of canon original, and found then to be excellent.. They have a good web site and terrific service.

So far, everybody is paying well over the top!!!! My Epson carts are £00.40 pence (FORTY PENCE) each.
the first link is for a printer + continuous ink, by the time you have used the ink you have saved £200, taking into accont the cost iof the printer. How cheap do you want.

Just FYI
lexmark software is a bugger to get off, if you decide to change your printer at a later date. also a problem if you don't fully install it (if your PC crashes while installing for example)
