Multiply both sides by 20 to get rid of the fractions:
20(-3/4x+5)=20(2/5x-7)
-15x+100=8x-140

Subtract 8x on both sides:
-23x+100=-140

Subtract 100 on both sides:
-23x=-240

Divide -23 on both sides:
x=240/23

Check:
-3/4(240/23)+5=2/5(240/23)-7
-180/23+5=96/23-7
-180/23+115/23=96/23-161/23
-65/23=-65/23

(2/5 + 3/4) x = 5 + 7
(8/20 + 15/20)x = 12
23/20 x = 12 => x = 12 * 20 /23 = 240/23

(2/5 + 3/4) x = 5 + 7
(8/20 + 15/20)x = 12
23/20 x = 12 => x = 12 * 20 /23 = 240/23

-3/4x+5 = 2/5x-7
thus, 5=2/5x -7 +3/4x(shifting 3/4x to the other side)
thus,5+7=2/5x+3/4x
thus, 12= (2*4+3*5)/20x
thus,23/20x=12
thus, x=12*20/23
Therefore x= 240/23=10.43

Given -3/4x+5 = 2/5x-7
shift integers to left hand side (LHS)of equal sign and "x" to right hand side (RHS) of it
Now we get, 5+7=2/5x +3/4x
or that is, 12=8/20x+15/20x (giving the RHS fractions a common denominator 20)
or that is, 12= 23/20x
therefore, x= 12*20/23 = 240/23=10.43 ... answer

- 3/4x + 5 = 2/5x - 7

20(-3/4x) + 20(5) = 20(2/5x) - 20(7)

- 15x + 100 = 8x - 140

- 15x + 100 + 15x = 8x - 140 + 15x

100 = 23x - 140

100 + 140 = 23x - 140 + 140

240 = 23x

240/23 = 23x/23

10.43478261 = x

x = 10.43 Rounded to two decimal places

The answer is x = 10.43

your question is not clear
is it (-3/4)x+5 = (2/5)x-7
or
is it (-3/4x)+5 = (2/5x)-7
or
is it
-3/(4x+5) = 2/(5x-7)
depending on the interpreation you will get different answers

2006-11-05 03:59:30 · answer #7 · answered by grandpa 4 · 1 0

-(3/4)x + 5 = (2/5)x - 7
-(3/4)x + 12 = (2/5)x (+ 7 on both sides)
12 = (2/5)x + (3/4)x (+ (3/4)x on both sides)
12 = (23/20)x
240 = 23x (* 20 on both sides)
x = 240/23 (/ 23 on both sides

2006-11-05 03:39:50 · answer #8 · answered by Rangoane 1 · 1 0

-3/4x+5=2/5x-7
what i would do is get all the x's to one side by subtracting 2/5x from both sides leaving you with
-1.15x+5=-7
then you add 5 to both sides leaving you with
-1.15x=-12
then you divide both sides by -1.15x to get the variable x alone
then you are left with
-12/1.15 or 10.43

Hope I Helped!!
