Obviously, the Iraq war has become a crisis. We can't leave because Iraq will undoubtedly turn into a terrorist haven, and a new dictator may rise and take power. We can't stay because that leads to more deaths of innocent Iraqis and U.S. soldiers through insurgent violence. Also, staying will lead to more frustrated Iraqis joining the terrorist movement. Either way, Iraq is on the verge of civil war, with Sunni and Shiite Muslims on opposing sides. Blame this war on BOTH Republicans and Democrats (Repubs for initiating it and Dems for going along with it). We need to stop the bipartisan bickering and think of answers. "Stay the course" and "cut and run" are both flawed ideas. My solution is, why don't we split Iraq up into two nations, one for Sunnis and one for Shiites/Kurds? We can try to establish two democracies rather than attempting to unite Iraq under one unsuccessful democracy. What do you guys think? Can anyone think of any other solutions?

Dividing between the Sunni and Shia/Kurd will not work. The majority of oil wealth is in the Shia and Kurd areas and the Sunni would not let themselves be cut out. This has already been proposed (Federalist states for each of the three) and been rejected by the Sunni.
I agree in general with your assessment of the situation and see no really workable solution since I do not believe that the Islamic religious leaders will ever allow any form of democracy to work. I think we will eventually see another Islamic Theocracy in Iraq.

if you could actually do that, it would be a lovely idea - but to do that you would be uprooting people and that is just going to cause more problems - you can't force someone to move without serious retaliation. unfortunately there is no real solution that will get a good outcome. even if the US military could get some of the places where insurgents are more active under control before we leave, that wouldn't prevent it from happening again. the other thing to remember is that the US always leaves bases in countries, as is it would not be a smart idea, so the US will not leave a small force until that small force is safe enough to stand on it's own if neccisary.
these are religions that have been warring since before the US existed, to think we could find a solution to it and end it within a given amount of time is foolhearty at best. it is like isreal, peace will never come through an outside force - you cannot make them like eachother and play nice, nor can you leave it up to themselves to do it. if we treated iraq more like we treat isreal we may have a decent solution, but that will never happen because we invaded, the US always has to keep a presense anywhere we have invaded.
essentially, there is no solution. we keep at it, change things to make the majority of iraqi's happier, and hope for the best.

hmm thats a complicated one... a million. im with the guy above me, get the iraqi military up and dealing. the only situation is that the iraqi military and police play the two facets of the fence, the 2nd we leave hell will ruin lose... corrupt bastards. 2. placed a end to all of this politically spectacular ROE "policies of engagement" crap. If a motor vehicle is following convoys gathering intel, shoot em. Iraqi military basically happens to be close to via while a IED in order that happens to be interior the spectacular place on the spectacular time? Shoot them! 3. I actual dont think of there is one, the only reasonable concept i will arise with that has a threat in hell of working is. stay there for yet another 15-2 many years untill those sons and daughters that adore us and prefer us grow to be adult men and ladies able to rendering a civilized society.

I like your solution. I do not think it is practical, nor would be very popular amongst other nations because it is very imperialistic. But that's why I like the answer. America is not as powerful as it used to be or should be because we no longer use imperialistic power to dictate how this world should be run. And America SHOULD dictate the way of the world because it is the most powerful nation on earth.

Concerning the blame you put here...I blame neither republicans nor democrats.
Rather, I blame good old Bush, Cheney, and Rummy for lying their asses off about WMD and terrorist connections. Those three idiots fooled everybody (including Powell - who I admire deeply). They should hang for their crimes.
Solution? Yeah, the one you offered is about as good as the next.
Or we could just bail out, let whatever happen there, and if we don't like it, attack Iraq again from time to time to set them straight. Who knows? The middle east is a screwed up place.
And when oil starts running short in a few decades or so, things will really start popping. Why do you think Iran wants the bomb so bad?

That was the original plan of the Neoconservatives, but some Iraqis didn't think it was a great idea
How about dividing the US into three sections
Whites/Asians
Blacks
Mexicans

Sounds like a good Idea to me. Two democracies are better than one.
