is there a light weight machine which i can carry around to library for typing? i don't want a laptop or tabletPC since the only function i need the machine to do is to record what i have typed.... laptop is too heavy and expensive for that narrow purpose of mine...

You can buy a palm pilot (there are lots of them and some are really cheap)
Then buy a keyboard/stand for it.
It wont weigh very much and the keyboards can fold up and some can attach onto the PDA while you are carrying it. All should fit in your pocket or purse!

A normal mechanical machine will greatly annoy the other visitors at the library with it's noise. Try a secondhand laptop. I used a1995 IBM Think Pad which I bought second hand for $80. I used it for a year and a half until I sold it for $50.

no. get with the times. you need a laptop, not a typewriter. get like a sony vaio, it's light enough.
