I have the neighbours from hell, but i love my place so much, i can't bear to move from it. Maybe you can find a new place you can renovate and put equal amounts of love into it.

Yes, this describes me to a tee! We built our home almost three years ago. I made a scrap book from the first ground-breaking to the final stages. I too am torn about leaving. I would love to pick up the house and take it with me. The only thing I can suggest is, take lots of pics, leave a momento in the attic such as a note with your new address. Maybe one day in the future you'll be contacted and invited to visit. That's what I'm going to do. Other than that, hopefully you'll find a new place you will love just as much. Good luck!

What you are feeling is very, very normal. It is almost a mourning process! Take lots of photos, make a nice album, and once you meet the people who are buying the home, chances are they will love it as much as you and be so happy about the purchase, you will feel you are leaving it in loving hands. If they are jerks, sell it to someone else (bad real estate advice, but good emotional advice)! After you say goodbye, you will find another one that you are just as excited about. If you decide to keep it as a rental, you will always be disgusted when you visit it. You will end up hurt, because no tenant will ever take care of it the way you would.

You have to focus on the property you're wanting to move to. Think of how happy you could be in your new property. Imagine a scenario in the future where you're happily settled in your new property, and you're looking back on your old property thinking "I'm glad I made that move".

You could buy a new build property in your new area so you won't have to renovate it - and hence won't have this problem should you decide to move again.

Oh, it's nice that you've created a beautiful happy place but if that's your doing then you will do that wherever you go and it has more to do with you than the materials put into it.

Be happy that someone else will be able to enjoy what you created. It's nice! Maybe the love you put into that house will seep into their lives too.

Also, if you want rights to come back someday then don't sell it just rent it out.
