This is not a question on EBay reliability but the seller's. Just check his rating on the top right of the item display window.

Make sure to check shipping charges as some sellers make profit from it. Of course you can not know if the product was stolen but some can get overstocked items really cheap.

I've had very good experiences buying from ebay. But I always look at who I'm buying from. Everybody gets a rating so you can look and see if the person is a good seller or if people have had bad experiences.

As far as the prices, that's one of the great points of ebay. It's an auction site so the starting price is generally no where close to what the closing price of the item is. (I once bid on an item that had a starting price of $25 and ended up paying over $200 for it. :) )

Hope this helps. :)

The answer is an emphatic resounding "NO". The sellers on Ebay are not employed by Ebay and Ebay really does not do much about policing the site. There is a lot of theft on Ebay but Ebay does not want to admit the fact that millions are scammed from people each day on the site.

The biggest problem Ebay has is people selling FAKES. Right now there are so many fake items on Ebay; it just makes me ill.

I started buying on Ebay back in 1997 and the started selling in 1999. I was an honest Powerseller but Ebay just kept trying to push our prices down while scamming more and more fees. The problems Ebay has with theft and fakes have only escalated in the past couple of years because people cannot pay much for an item and must make huge profit on the item to be able to pay Ebay's fees. I quit selling because it is impossible to make a living on Ebay any longer.

The Ebay fee system makes sellers list an item for a very low price. The only way seller has of protecting their investment is to add some of the expenses on the shipping fees. People forget that shipping fees involve wrapping materials, labor, etc. so actual shipping rates are impossible for a seller to offer.

Honest "ma and pa" sellers who made Ebay famous are now gone.

If you want to buy something from an Ebay seller check their feedback. Do not buy from someone withe less than 100 feedbacks and the more the better (I have 2600 with 100% good) If they have less than 99% good feedback it is best not to buy from them. Also, you can write to a seller and ask questions. I usually do and I make the decision to buy if they answer me in a timely manner and are honest answering my questions.

If I were you I would NOT spend any great amount on an item from Ebay.

I do still buy from Ebay because I know a lot of the good sellers. You can get some great bargains but you have to be careful.

Some of them have a reserve on them; the value on some items is inflated; and usually the bids come in and the price goes up quickly. I just saw a dollar item end up at $256. Always check the seller's feedback to see if he is a legitimate seller. Read the descriptions carefully. Some jewels are CZ's or fakes.

Bidding normally starts low, if you look at the remaining days left it is probably like a whole week. Or the item is broken, you must read the description very well. Lots of people also will not bid if no pictures of the actual item are present.

look at the seller's rating. that tells a lot. but in the end though a lot of people will start to bid on that item and the price will start to go up substantially. I believe it is mostly legit just make sure you look at the rating of the people you are buying from. There are a lot of honest people out there with no rating that are just starting but on the other had some people who may be just starting to use eBay and may rip you off. so....

No! Its approx. 35% fraud. Those items they list for a $1 to avoid ebay fee's. Check the shipping. Shipping will be the actual cost of the item.

So if they sell it for a $1 it could cost $250.00 to ship it from one county over.

Those people have to be turned into ebay. It is illegal in the ebay world to charge more than the actual shipping and a reasonable handling fee.

I avoid auctions like that. Because if they come back after you bought it and say shipping is $1,000 they can legally hold you to it because ebay bids are lega binding contracts and most power sellers use Pre Paid Legal. If you are issued a notice from Pre Paid Legal and you do not pay the collection. It will go against your credit report.

The bid price usually goes up during the last minutes of auction, everyone watches to see what others will bid.
